Online shopping emerged in the 1990, linking people to the culture of capitalism in frequent and daily ways. Some time later  in 1994 other advances took place such as Online Banking, After that, the pizza hut people opened up a online shop by which you can buy pizzas online.

In that very year(1994) Netscape introduced SSL encryption to enable encryption over the data transfered online which has become necissatiy for online shopping. In 1995, Amazon started with the online shopping, then in 1996, eBay opened up for online shopping store as well.  And now since then more and more sites keep on adding each day, online shopping has become a multi billion dollar industry and is on forever growth.

Shopping has come from single stores to large malls with different services such as offering delivery, attentive service and store credit and accepting return.  These new additions to shopping have encouraged and targeted the middle class women.

In these few years, online shopping has become quite popular. However, the service of online shopping  is for middle and upper class people only, as in order to buy online, you must be able to have access to a computer and most of the time, own a credit card. This technology separates social classes and their ability to shop.  Shopping has come a long way with the growth of technology and this means even larger separation between social classes and their new avenues to shop. Social position greatly influences a persons preferences and tastes in popular culture.

Online shopping widened the target consumers to men and women of the middle class. When this online shopping was introduced the main users of online shopping were young men with a high income and a university education. 

This has now changed over a period of time.
